Current NFC Alerts

Monday, September 26, 2022

We have been closely monitoring the development of Hurricane Ian activity entering the Gulf throughout the weekend.  We notify campus as information becomes available, but for now please take this opportunity to enroll in campus emergency communication options.

Beginning Monday, August 9, 2021

NFC's updated procedures are as follows:

  • All employees, students, and visitors will be strongly encouraged to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status, inside all college facilities, especially when in proximity to others. Masks will no longer be required.
  • Our very liberal use of “work from home” that was permitted under the emergency order terminates at the end of this week. Beginning Monday, our NFC Policy 4.57 Telecommuting will be in full effect and applicable to all situations that might interrupt regular work schedules. (Policy attached)
  • All currently approved NFC employee travel plans will be honored; however, any new request must be considered essential to college operation and pre-approved by a supervisor.
  • NFC will continue to provide Face Masks and Sanitizing supplies on request. Housekeeping will continue to sanitize with the use of issued sprayers and sanitizing supplies.
  • The College will continue to work closely with the health department for reporting, contact tracing, and potential quarantine requirement.
  • NFC will continue to follow Health Department recommendations on Staff and Student exposures and positive cases. Classrooms and on campus classes may be affected.

See COVID-19 Vaccines & Resources information for campus below.

Past COVID-19 Updates and Communications

Please note: information below contains updates and communications by date related to NFC's COVID-19 response. The most current alerts and updates can be found at top of page.

July 26, 2021: Our state and region is currently experiencing a considerable increase in COVID cases. Please remember that the Sentinel Safety Plan - Wear Your Mask, Watch Your Distance and Wash Your Hands - is still in place on campus (masks required).

Sentinel Safety Plan and related protocols continue for Summer Term 2021.

Jan. 5, 2021: Sentinel Safety Plan and related protocols continue for Spring Term 2021.

Aug. 3, 2020: NFC release Sentinel Safety Plan with updates to student guidelines, college operations and updated information for the NFC family and general public. Please note that face masks are required in all public spaces on campus.

The College will follow the health department’s Three W Guidance:

  • Wash your hands
  • Watch your distance
  • Wear your mask

The North Florida College faculty, staff, and administration are closely following the development of the COVID-19 pandemic in our service area and across the state. All future recommendations from the Center for Disease Control, Florida Department of Education, and our local health department will be considered with the overriding intent to place the safety and wellbeing of our students and employees first and foremost. As such, in response to current conditions and health information available, NFC is initiating the following procedures:

  • Wash Your Hands: Hand sanitizer will be located at key access points across campus along with signage reminding everyone to wash hands frequently to prevent spread of infection.
  • Watch Your Distance: Please be vigilant in maintaining social distancing policies and keep 6 feet apart from others. Please follow information on signage to understand access services and offices. Pedestrian traffic inside buildings and in waiting areas will be tightly controlled to maximize social distancing possibility.
  • Wear Your Mask: Masks will be worn in classrooms, offices, hallways and public spaces at the college at all times. Reminders will be placed throughout campus.

College Operations

  • All on campus classes have had their class size reduced to accommodate social distancing. In addition, the college has staggered classroom use schedules to allow for cleaning and disinfecting between classes.
  • The NFC Sentinel Grill will remain closed for the Fall 2020 semester.
  • The Colin P Kelly fitness center will be closed until further notice.
  • The Student Center will remain closed until further notice; however, certain student activities, student government meetings, and other crucial functions will be conducted virtually through Fall 2020 semester.

Guidelines for Students

NFC is offering fully online classes, hybrid courses and traditional face-to-face on-campus courses. Some career and workforce education programs will require on-campus, face-to-face classroom and laboratory meetings.

NFC’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic is based on the very best information currently available, along with a close consideration of local conditions. Please keep in mind this is our PLAN to keep our students and employees as safe as possible, and as such, these plans may change for a number of reasons. While we are striving to provide continuity of learning experiences and support to our students, decisions made at the state level – through the Governor’s Office or the Department of Education – or at the local level from our health department partners, could result in a drastic change to these plans, including a reversion to all online learning we experienced this past March. If that should occur, please be aware that the college’s personnel and learning and support infrastructure are well prepared for that circumstance.

Anyone who believes they might have been exposed or have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 should contact NFC Director of Campus Safety and Security Larry Akers at akersl@nfc.edu prior to attending an on-campus class.

All non-Career Workforce Education and non-Allied Health/Nursing courses will go online after Thanksgiving. This means that all General Education and elective college credit hour courses scheduled to meet face-to-face during the Fall 2020 semester will move the last week of class sessions online. Additionally, final exam week for General Education and elective college credit courses will move all final exams completely online. The end-of-term dates would remain the same as they currently are on our academic calendar.

  • Nov. 30–Dec. 7: ONLINE
  • Dec. 8–Dec. 11: Final Exam Week ONLINE

Students in any programs that require clinical experiences (nursing, EMT/Paramedic) should also follow any protocols put in place by their clinical location.

General Public

All non-NFC events have been postponed or cancelled until further notice. There will be very limited public access to the college at this time. All visitors to campus will be required to wear face masks and practice social distancing. College facilities will not be available for non-NFC use.

APRIL 1, 2020 - Spring Commencement and RN Pinning Postponed

Due to the CDC guidance and extended US deadline to limiting all gatherings to less than 10 individuals, NFC has made the difficult decision to postpone its Spring 2020 Commencement Ceremony and RN Pinning Ceremony.

  • Virtual Celebrations Planned: We plan to celebrate and acknowledge the important achievements and milestones of our spring graduates virtually at the conclusion of Spring Term 2020. More details will be shared with our graduates.
