Lafayette FFA’s 2026 state title marks third championship in five years won by NFC dual enrollment students
MADISON, Fla. – North Florida College dual enrollment students will return to the national stage this October as members of Lafayette High School FFA’s state champion Parliamentary Procedure team, continuing a remarkable five-year run in which NFC dual enrollment students have been part of three state championship teams and two national championship teams.
The Lafayette High School FFA Parliamentary Procedure team won the state championship during the 98th Annual Florida FFA State Convention & Expo in Kissimmee in June. With the victory, the team earned the opportunity to represent Florida at the 99th National FFA Convention & Expo, Oct. 21-24 in Indianapolis.
The championship marks Lafayette’s third state Parliamentary Procedure title since 2022, with NFC dual enrollment students comprising each championship team in 2022, 2024 and 2026.
The 2026 team includes Fhelix Hernandez, Levi Smith, Harrison Jackson, Corinne Walker, Kambry Moseley, Hallyn Hurst, Dallas Deadwyler and Boone Riley, all of whom participated in NFC’s dual enrollment program while attending Lafayette High School.
Smith, Walker, Deadwyler and Riley are currently enrolled as NFC dual enrollment students. Hernandez, Jackson, Moseley and Hurst participated in NFC dual enrollment before graduating from Lafayette High School in 2026.
For the 2026 team, the trip to Indianapolis is an opportunity to continue a remarkable run established by the Lafayette teams that came before them.
In 2022, NFC dual enrollment students Seth Chandler, Jaley Moseley, McKenzie Winburn, Ella Hancock, Jalen Hill and Cason Driver represented Florida at the 95th National FFA Convention & Expo, where they won the National FFA Parliamentary Procedure Leadership Development Event.
Two years later, NFC dual enrollment students Wyatt Chandler, Delaney Deadwyler, Trey Galbraith, Alyssa Jones, Emily Thomas and Sidney Wimberley continued the tradition as members of Lafayette’s 2024 state championship team. They advanced to national competition and brought home another national Parliamentary Procedure title.
Across the three championship teams, 20 Lafayette FFA students have participated in dual enrollment at North Florida College while competing at the highest levels of FFA Parliamentary Procedure.
“The experience and confidence I gained through NFC helped prepare me to compete at the highest level, and I was proud to win the national Parliamentary Procedure contest in 11th grade,” said Emily Reese Thomas NFC graduate and former Lafayette FFA Parliamentary Procedure team member.
“Starting dual enrollment at North Florida College in eighth grade gave me a strong foundation in writing, public speaking and time management that I carried with me throughout high school.”
The students’ accomplishments demonstrate how dual enrollment can complement the opportunities available to students at their high schools. While earning college credit and getting an early start on their postsecondary education, NFC dual enrollment students can continue participating in FFA and other leadership, career and extracurricular activities.
“It’s unbelievable that a small school such as Lafayette could win one of the most prestigious FFA contests in the state of Florida three times in the past five years,” said Ricky Lyons, chair of the North Florida College District Board of Trustees and longtime agricultural education advocate. “These students spend hours preparing for the contest while pursuing their education, with many being dual enrollment students at North Florida College.”
The success carries a special connection for Lyons, a Florida FFA Hall of Fame member who spent much of his career teaching agriculture at Lafayette High School, including parliamentary procedure.
FFA Parliamentary Procedure competition requires students to demonstrate both knowledge and practical application of parliamentary law. Teams complete a general knowledge examination, demonstrate parliamentary procedure, answer oral questions, prepare written minutes and work together to solve problems. The event develops communication, leadership, critical-thinking and decision-making skills students can carry into college, careers and their communities.
The National FFA Parliamentary Procedure Leadership Development Event is one of several FFA Career and Leadership Development Events designed to give students opportunities to develop skills applicable to leadership, agriculture and future careers.
The 2026 Lafayette team will take its place in that tradition this October, carrying both Florida and a growing legacy of NFC dual enrollment success to the national stage.
