Governor Signs HB 525 Renaming North Florida Community College on July 1

North Florida Community College looking forward to new name and future as North Florida College

NFCC Changes Name to North Florida College July 1MADISON, FL –Back in November 2016, North Florida Community College announced plans to select a new name for the College as it moved toward offering a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the College’s first baccalaureate-level program. On January 17, 2017, the NFCC District Board of Trustees voted on and approved North Florida College as the new name to send forward to The Florida Senate for consideration. Now after two years and much anticipation, the name change is finally taking place. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis officially approved and signed House Bill 525 into law on June 7, 2019, and North Florida Community College will officially change its name to North Florida College on July 1.

“This is a historic moment for the College,” said NFCC President John Grosskopf. “We appreciate The Florida Senate and Governor’s support of our name change and are proud to take this giant step forward in our evolution to becoming North Florida College on July 1.”

The community will begin to see subtle changes surrounding the College name beginning July 1. With a new logo and branding materials planned for unveiling in August, the major changes to the College look and promotional materials will take place during Fall Term 2019, the College’s first term as North Florida College.

“As we evolve and continue to grow, one thing will not change, North Florida College will continue to be your college, responsive to your needs, and an open door to education and opportunity for the North Florida area,” said Grosskopf. “As North Florida College, we will aggressively prepare our students for 21st-century jobs, create programs and opportunities to meet our district’s workforce needs, and develop strategic partnerships with community, business and industry leaders to benefit our students, graduates and community.”

This will be the second name change for the College which began offering classes in 1958 as North Florida Junior College. In July 1995, the District Board of Trustees changed the name of the College from North Florida Junior College to North Florida Community College in order to better define the purpose of the institution. Now 20 years later, the College is once again looking forward to a new name that better defines its future but does not change its mission which is centered around its students and community.
