First Generation Student
Who is a First Generation Student?
NFC recognizes a First Generation student as one whose parents or legal guardians have not completed a 4-year college or university degree, regardless of other family member’s level of education.
NFC students self-identify whether they are or are not a First Generation student when they first log-in to E-Banner.
Why It Matters
Your dreams are worth chasing and NFC is here to help. For First Generation college students who want to confidently strike out on your own, we offer resources just for you so that you can walk across the graduation stage with your head held high.
When you identify as First Gen, you are connected with resources and events, specifically the First to Stand ceremony where First Gen graduates are presented a medallion to be worn over your gown at graduation.
